Capturing memories through my lens
I wanted to capture every meaningful moment to cherish it in the future. Every photo holds my memory whether it would be the emotion in that moment or the emotion within me when pressing the shutter.
La Solitude
Loneliness. The state of being in discomfort in which no one can ever avoid facing. The limen between one’s desire and one’s surroundings. The physical and emotional isolation that affects one’s state of well being. In some cases, time and space could remedy this distress experience.
Different people have different ways of expressing the state of being lonely; as for me, I would like to use this media of art to portray my state of being lonely while being away from what I call “home”. I captured those feelings and expressed them through the empty space within this photograph. By valuing the state of being alone, those feelings could sometimes heal you from the confusion of the outside world. With the space, angles and lighting values of the places, I was able to appreciate ‘loneliness’.
This is a series of postcard-sized photographs from my perspective as a “lonely traveller” exploring the space far away from home. André Kertész’s album, Postcards From Paris, inspired my series of works;I imitated Kertész’s compositions–the use of lights–tried to put myself through his lens. I tried to shoot poetic images of every life by capturing the tranquillity. With different sizing and borders, I did my best to trap the audience inside the spaces within the photograph in a unique way, just like what Kertész did.
